TARGA is an acronym for Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter and is also known as the TGA format.

The compression method used when creating TARGA format is not suitable for images that feature several color variations and it is usually used for storing textures and simpler graphic files. This is why TARGA mainly used for texture files used within 3D video games.

Currently, most image editors can open and edit TGA files allowing users to adjust the picture's brightness, contrast and saturation.

Users may also be able to rotate, crop or resize their TGA files, as well as export the images to more common graphic formats.
