RAM (acronym for Real Audio Media) is an audio format created by RealNetworks. The contents of a RAM files is compressed using proprietary RealAudio codecs.
Furthermore, RAM tracks are actually text files containing special links to the location of the real Real Audio file, thus converting these type of files requires a specialized application.
Because RAM is not a common audio format, users will often resort to converting their files to more popular formats that may be played using most multimedia players.
