M2TS (short for MPEG-2 Transport Stream) is a file format representing a video track usually used for creating Blu-ray discs and mainly employed for multiplexing audio, video or other streams.
The M2TS file extension represents the high-definition BDAV format and it is typically used for storing video streams on Blu-ray Discs. Users who do not have Blu-ray devices may be able to convert their M2TS files to other formats.
One usually chooses to convert M2TS files to more common video formats because of the better support offered by multimedia converters.
Furthermore, users may also be able to rely on M2TS converters for playing their video files before conversion.
