WinterBoard is a free, lightweight and easy-to-use application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that allows you to completely change the looks of your device's interface. WinterBoard comes with numerous design tools that enable you to theme and change almost any aspect of the iOS operating system.
Installing themes with WinterBoard is really simple and it will also help youto install multiple theme packages simultaneously via its intuitive configuration interface.
WinterBoard is the successor of SummerBoard and this means that you can install themes from the latter as well. Although it's similar to SummerBoard, the WinterBoard app is more powerful and will enable you to theme the majority of graphics in iOS.
A WinterBoard theme consists of several components: the Dock.png icon, the Icons folder, the StatusBar.png image, and the Wallpaper.png image. In addition to this, you can theme video wallpapers, sounds, web clips, the lock background, or SMS Background using this flexible utility. Some other aspects of your iOS that you can theme / change include the debug output, font, per-page wallpapers and the Icon Alpha.
In order to install WinterBoard, two options are available: you can either do it manually using the .deb file, or via the Cydia app directly from your iDevice.
Furthermore, if you prefer the manual installation, simply SCP or SFTP your deb file into your device's "tmp" folder and then enter the "dpkg -i /tmp/filename.deb" command in the Terminal SSH on your device.
As for the installation via Cydia, all you have to do is to search for WinterBoard, tap on the app's name, and just follow the simple installation steps. Note that a reboot of your iDevice is required in order to complete the installation process.
All things considered, WinterBoard is a feature-rich app that makes it very simple for its users to change the graphical interface of their iOS devices in almost any imaginable way. The app is strongly recommended if you want to give your device a complete makeover.
