Having iTunes installed on your system is essential if you want to connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac computer. However, the iTunes sync function does not have too many customization options: you have to sync the entire library, which can take a lot of time.

iExplorer is a macOS application designed to help you manage the content stored on your iOS device in a more intuitive manner: you can browse the available data and then export single files to your hard drive.

The application is able to recognize iOS devices connected to your Mac via USB and automatically displays their content in its main window. To make sure everything goes smoothly, make sure that your iTunes app is running and that the iOS devices status figures as connected (you might need to confirm the connection on your iPhone or iPad).

iExplorer keeps your iPhone or iPad content organized into various categories: media, apps, backups (messages, contacts, voicemail, call history, notes, Safari, and Calendar), photos, iCloud, books, media library, and bookmarks.

The navigation process is quite intuitive and iExplorer also offers you the possibility to preview the file’s content before transferring. Most of the exporting functions can be accessed via the “Action” button placed on the top toolbar or by pressing the “Export” button situated in the bottom area of the main window (it is visible only on certain cases).

If you are using a jailbroken iOS device, iExplorer allows you to access the “real” root. At the same time, the app is able to automatically enable the disk mode hijacking. Last but not least, iExplorer is also able to import different types of metadata details when importing tracks to iTunes.

iExplorer is a great solution for managing and transferring content from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac without having to use the iTunes sync function. Not only that you can view all the files stored on your devices, but you can also transfer them individually, at a location of your choice.
