Timely For Mac

Timely is a useful online service that allows you to manage your own and your employees’ schedules, track the amount of time allocated to specific tasks and calculate billable hours based on fixed rates.

Until now, the service could only be accessed from a web browser, iPhone or Apple Watch, but the new Timely OS X app enables you to manage projects from the desktop.

Assuming you have already created a Timely account, you can log in from the application and see what you have planned for today. You can add new tasks, assign them so certain projects and specify how many hours have already been logged.

The timer for the currently active task is displayed in your menu bar, so it is very easy to keep track of it without becoming distracted. All tasks are color-coded based on the project they are assigned to, and you can change their order or resize them with simple mouse movements.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to see your schedule for the following days, and projects still have to be created from the web app, which means that you have to use an Internet browser for most account-related operations.

Only a few operations can be performed from the desktop application, such as adding new tasks, tracking their progress and calculating fees.

Sadly, you cannot create new projects, view users or invite new ones, view reports or manage your account settings. Most of these functions are available even in the Timely iOS app, so there is no reason for them not to be included in the OS X version.

There is no doubt that Timely can be extremely helpful for companies or even individual users, as it combines scheduling and time tracking functions into one neat package.

Your tasks and timers can be synchronized across multiple devices, but the OS X application offers a very limited set of features when compared to the web and iOS apps, so you still have to keep a browser tab open to take full advantage of the service.
