Text Encoding Converter for Mac
Text Encoding Converter is a simple and lightweight Mac OS X application that offers a minimalistic solution to converting TXT files in a variety of encodings to UTF-8 or other Unicode variations. The app supports more than 100 encodings as input or output.
The main user interface is straightforward and consists of two panes, one to preview the text you have added and the other to choose 4 different encoding types and preview the changes. You can select any supported encoding by clicking on the drop-down menu below each box.
Another benefit of using Text Encoding Converter is that it can automatically detect the encoding of your text. This way, you can easily know which ones to assign. However, the app might fail to do so, in which case you can manually pick the right encoding for your text, as described above.
If you are happy with the generated previews of your text after choosing an encoding, you can proceed to save the text in that encoding type. The application also includes a basic Preferences window for choosing the default input encoding as well as output decoding.
Overall, Text Encoding Converter is a no-frills tool that just does what is expected to do - convert between encodings. Although it does not come with extra features, it offers a straightforward and easy-to-use GUI, multiple preview panes and support for many encoding types.
