Text processing is a quite common daily task, so finding the utility that best suits your needs is extremely important. TabEditor is yet another text editor that can handle popular file formats, comes with tabs support, and is focused on low resources consumption.

Finding your way around the TabEditor main window is quite easy because the app follows the standard word processor design: the main area is reserved for the text editing, while the top toolbar provides access to most functions.

The bottom toolbar includes characters and words counters, but also the date and time when you opened the document. You have the option to open multiple documents at the same time, and TabEditor will display the path to the file in the tab label area.

TabEditor is able to work with popular text file formats, such as TXT, DOC, RTF, RTFD, DOCX, FODT, ODT, PLIST, HTLM, HTM, or XML. To help you differentiate between open documents at a glance, TabEditor allows you to use different colors for the tab label background and text.

The application provides support for simple tasks, like changing the text font style, size, color, alignment, and so on. Moreover, you get to duplicate documents, to check the text’s spelling and grammar, or to find and replace text snippets.

TabEditor proposes simple solutions that should meet most common text processing requirements, but also provides a tabbed interface that will streamline your workflow by allowing you to work on more than one project at the same time.

In terms of resources usage, on a 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 6GB RAM, TabEditor took around 0.3% of the CPU while in standby, and up to 25% CPU when opening multiple documents or managing tabs. The memory usage sat around 35MB RAM.
