Simple Notes For Mac

SimpleNotes for Mac is a text editor that tries a slightly different approach on the same basic principle. It aims to bring a touch of color and the unconventional while retaining standard functionality.

After downloading and mounting the .dmg image file, you can access it by clicking on SimpleNotes application type file. Installation is not required, but it's an inspired move to drag and drop its icon into the Mac OS X Application cluster tab for easy access in the future.

The Mac OS X system tray upper bar is devoid of options, other than rudimentary ones for bringing focus on the application, and a few auxiliaries as well. An interesting predicament is that if you select the yellow page or sticky note look-alike, the system tray bar will not populate with those options, as it doesn't recognize the brought focus on the Simple Notes' window. Clicking on the dock icon will work around it instead.

At times, you can feel the lack of a professional touch, feature and interface-wise. It's rather mediocre, poorly arranged and ostentatious. Clicking on the black square from the top left side of the window unlocks an array of tools that you can move your cursor upon for additional information to appear in dialogue boxes.

It includes a text to speech feature. Simple Notes' window cannot be enlarged or maximized, and the tools and settings are too crowded and small, making it tricky aiming clicks and uncomfortable to work with.

It performs some customary and essential operations that text-editing software components benefit from, adding text-to-speech, all packed in a perhaps too petite and slim of an interface, and it can change its basic colors as well. SimpleNotes strives to be an alternative to the sober looking solutions out there, for those who want something different and perhaps way too casual. Then again, there are plenty of other options that look and perform better, so it remains for each to decide.
