An alternative word processor that enables you to see the text and image content next to each other in order to make documents easier to read. #Word processor #Create document #Read on screen #Word #Processor #Text
The FlexiWrite project aims to provide an alternative solution for reading documents on the screen, without having to scroll back and forth to relevant images, hence eliminating the need to print them.
Worth mentioning is that FlexiWrite uses a proprietary file format for saving the created documents (DFTI - Dynamic Formatted Text & Image Files), yet can import data form TXT or HTML files. The utility does not include an option to print the file either.
FlexiWrite integrates the macOS copy and paste functionality, so you can bypass the issue by moving the text content to a third party editor.
However, you will also have to take the time to transfer the data to FlexiWrite whenever you want to read the documents while comparing the text with the associated images.
FlexiWrite focuses on eliminating the paper usage generated by the fact that you cannot comfortably read documents on your screen. Within the app’s main window you get to set a name for your project, and then proceed on creating as many chapters and sections as you like.
Each section comes with a clean text editing area where you must input the data. At the same time, you get to assign an image per section. The image and the chapter/section details will be visible at all times.
To navigate the document you can either use the buttons placed in the bottom area of the FlexiWrite main window, or you can employ the predefined hotkeys. At the same time, FlexiWrite can also generate a Table of Contents that furthers streamlines the document navigation.
FlexiWrite also integrates search and find and replace tools that you can use to navigate to or edit a particular piece of information, especially when dealing with large projects.
It's also important to mention that the FlexiWrite app also comes with the ability to export your documents as HTML and CSS based webpages which can be viewed using your Mac's default web browser.
It also features open and save dialogues with easy and fast navigation, as well as as a change case option for easily customizing your documents' text content.
Bottom line, FlexiWrite proposes an interesting solution for revising documents that include images in a comfortable manner, yet the app features quite limited text processing capabilities.
You get to change the font style, color, and size, to apply bold or italic formatting, to underline or strikethrough the text, to adjust the alignment and other such tasks.
FlexiWrite provides quick access to a word counter tool and helps the user to spell check the content, but keep in mind that you need to manually download the dictionary you want to employ.
What's new in FlexiWrite 1.03.01:
- Fixes a bug that caused the dictionary to have to be loaded separately into each new window (Pro only) - dictionary now only has to be loaded once per session, speeding up spellchecking and reducing system resource use.
- Fixes a bug that caused FlexiWrite to continue to run in the background after closing all windows on Windows systems (Pro only). FlexiWrite now quits/exits properly on all systems once all windows are closed.
