Manually resizing and arranging windows can prove to be tedious work, especially if you need to regularly change your layout depending on what you are working on.

Spectacle is a small yet efficient solution that can help you move windows around and even resize them, either by relying on the entries in the status bar menu or by employing the system wide hotkey associated to each preset.

Given the minimalist design adopted by the Spectacle icon, the application matches perfectly the look used by the default system functions included in the status bar. To use its capabilities, just extend the associated menu and select one of the predefined window layouts.

Spectacle includes undo and redo capabilities and offers you the possibility to disable its functions for an hour. At the same time, you can choose to disable it altogether for the currently active application.

Worth mentioning is that you can choose to launch the app at login via the Spectacle Preferences and decide if you want the status bar menulet active or you want to run it as a background application.

Not using a menulet with Spectacle is possible since the utility allows you to activate any of its functions by using a hotkey. The app comes with predefined keyboard combinations, but the user can change them at any time.

Spectacle offers you the possibility to center or send the current window to full-screen mode, assign it to the next or previous display, or increase or decrease its size.

The app can separate the screen into halves, thirds, or quarters and offers you the option to resize and send the current window to any of the predefined spaces.

Bottom line, Spectacle offers you the possibility to both resize and move windows around the screen in an attempt to bring order to your desktop.

The Spectacle app comes with predefined spaces and hotkeys, but you get to personalize only the latter: the utility does not allow the user to define custom layout templates.
