You can use your Mac’s desktop to watch movies but, in some cases, part of your screen is unnecessarily covered by black borders.
Wide Screen Movie Player is a small Mac macOS utility that can be used to playback videos in wide screen mode.
As far as video support goes, note that Wide Screen Movie Player is able to open any QuickTime compatible file formats.
By default, the Wide Screen Movie Player main window comes in full screen mode and both the status bar an the Dock are automatically hidden. To access the Wide Screen Movie Player menus, hover your cursor on top if the status bar area.
As a result, when you open a video file, the entire screen will be covered by the video image and no space is wasted. However, via the Wide Screen Movie Player menus or through simple hotkeys, you get to easily adjust the player size.
Wide Screen Movie Player allows you to enable a small controller that includes a progress bar and buttons to start or pause the video.
However, the app also includes various hotkeys: Command+P (start), Command+S (stop), Command+R (reverse), Command+B (go to beginning), Command+E (go to end), Command+> (increase rate), Command+

What's new in Wide Screen Movie Player 7.1:
- A full recompilation has been made to be compatible with High Sierra, and as Universal Binary to keep being compatible with both old (PowerPC) Macs and recent (Intel) Macs.
- The "How to install it?" paragraph of the documentation has been updated to explain how to install and launch the Application in particular under Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra:
- Under Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra, if you're launching the Application for the first time, Mac OS' GateKeeper (which you can configure in the "System Preferences") will refuse to launch it because you've not downloaded it from the Mac App Store (but from our website). In this case, instead of double-clicking on it, all you have to do is to right-click on the Application's icon, and then select the "Open" menu. A message will appear in which you'll be able to confirm that you want to launch the Application (even if it was not downloaded from the Mac App Store from an Identified Developer).
