VideoBreakout For Mac

VideoBreakout is an unobtrusive OS X application that works in the background and enables you to send videos from your Safari web browser to VLC or QuickTime. This way you can play multiple videos at the same time and have more playback options.

The VideoBreakout application puts in place a system that enables you to send videos from Safari to the VLC media player. Upon launch, VideoBreakout checks if the VLC media player is installed on your Mac, and also provides support for installing the VideoBreakout Safari extension.

If both are present on your Mac, VideoBreakout lets you know that the system is fully operational. As a result, when playing a video in Safari, you can press the VideoBreakout button that is automatically added to your address bar and have the video sent to the VLC app.

VideoBreakout also includes a couple of customization options when it comes to managing the videos. When there are multiple videos on the same page, VideoBreakout allows you to select the default behaviour: play the first video, or ask the user whichever video should be played.

VideoBreakout can send compatible videos to the QuickTime player instead of VLC, and you can set up a hotkey to activate this function. Last but not least, VideoBreakout can automatically stop the video playing on the website when you send it to VLC.

However, this function might not work on all websites. VideoBreakout can also close the website altogether, or only if it’s a video only web page.

To conclude, VideoBreakout is an exceptional tool to have around if you want to be able to play online videos in VLC or QuickTime without having to download the content to your Mac.

On the downside, VideoBreakout provides the companion extension only for the Safari web browser and does not allow you to employ a media player of your choice.
