Smart Recorder is an user friendly video recording utility that can be used to capture your desktop activity in order to create high quality presentations, or to record encrypted video streams. The app comes with 5 different capture modes, and integrates motion detection functionalities.

Learning to use the Smart Recorder application will prove to be fairly simple: upon launch, the app places a small menu in the status bar where you can easily choose the capture method you want to employ (region, window, full screen, click and snap, or smart record). The next step is to select the desktop area you want to capture: the involved tools are quite self explanatory.

Once Smart Recorder has finished the recording process, you will be able to view all the available videos in the Smart Recorder main window. The app enables you to preview the movies by using the QuickTime player, but also includes basic trimming capabilities.

Noteworthy is that you can use Smart Recorder to capture movies from various websites, such as Hulu, YouTube or Netflix. The app includes a motion detection function, so it can detect immediately if the movie is playing in the window or not (you must start the playback before triggering the recording process).

By default, Smart Recorder is placing the output videos as MOV files in your Movies folder, but the app also offers you the possibility to import the recordings to your iTunes library with the press of a button.

Smart Recorder provides easy to use tools for quickly creating screencasts with minimal effort: the app can record specific windows or desktop regions, and you can easily trim the result to remove the excess data. Moreover, the app can capture movies hosted online and store them to your disk without making you deal with complex tools or settings.
