Making transcripts and annotations for videos requires special tools that allow you to adjust both the snippet content and its location in the timeline. Annotation Transcriber is a macOS application designed to deal with both these issues.

The Annotation Transcriber main window is designed to streamline the annotation process: you can import and preview the video you want to process, add time codes and text snippets, and then export the data to a file.

Right off the bat, you should open the movie that you want to transcribe: Annotation Transcriber includes a minimalist media player that includes a timeline, play / rewind buttons, and displays the timecode. Moreover, you get to adjust the playback speed.

For your convenience, Annotation Transcriber also enables you to visualize the audio waveform so you are able to see precisely when will a change in the video soundtrack occur.

Annotation Transcriber can be used to create an unlimited number of snippets and attaches keyboard shortcuts to each entry: this way you can quickly add a time code by using a specific button or by pressing the Option+Command+I hot-key, and then use the snippet keyboard combination to attach the text.

By default, the video preview and the text area are separated, but you can bring the images closer to your by using the “Swap” button: the movie panel will be placed on top of the text editor.

Annotation Transcriber provides simple solutions for creating text files that can be synced with your videos by adding a time code to each entry. However, during our test (performed on a 2GHz Intel core duo iMac running Mavericks), the application crashed frequently so you should check if it works properly on you configuration.
