Designed for users or photographers who work with large number of pictures on a daily basis, Sorty is a Java-based and cross-platform application that aims to drastically reduce the time you usually need to sort and organize pictures.

Right from the start, you need to know a couple of things like the fact that Sorty will not modify your pictures, but only organize and move them into folders. Sorty proposes a fast way for doing this by enabling you to perform basic actions, mainly using your Mac’s keyboard.

Basically, instead of having to manually tag and sort your pictures using the Finder, Sorty suggests tags that you only need to validate, and will automatically detect similarities and relevant information based on your pictures’ metadata, so that they can be easily organized.

Another worth mentioning feature is the fact that Sorty can detect pictures taken using burst mode on your camera. The good news here is the fact that you only need to tag one of those photos and Sorty will automatically tag the others.

By now you are probably thinking that this software is pure genius, and it would be, but only if a couple of issues were to be resolved. The first and most annoying thing about Sorty is the fact that because it is a Java-based app, the black-themed interface is not what you would call user-friendly.

This really isn’t something that you can’t overlook, but, there’s another problem with it. By far the biggest problem is the absence of a Help feature or manual, which is a must-have option for these  type of apps. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find a manual or a help page on the developer’s website either.

We are not trying to say that Sorty is unusable and neither do we think it is useless, but the fact of the matter is that its confusing layout, coupled with the lack of proper instructions on how to use the app, make it pretty much counter-intuitive, to say the least.

Sorty is certainly not what you would call a user-friendly application and if you know your way around photo apps that help your sort and organize pictures, after a considerable amount of time, you may be able to figure out how sorty works and use it at its full potential to save great amounts of time.

But, if by any chance you are a novice user that doesn’t have a lot of experience with organizing photos, then you’re probably better off looking for some other, more intuitive, app that could make the job maybe not faster, but definitely easier.
