mJournal Review by
4.5/5

mJournal is a straightforward and efficient macOS application that makes it simple for you to take notes and keep them safe and synced via cloud based services.

The fact that mJournal was built with simplicity and ease of access in mind becomes evident once you start the application, moment when you will be greeted by a minimalist yet well organized user-interface.

The application’s simple and distracting-free interface is represented by a top toolbar that stacks quick access to all the important features, a panel on the left side that displays the articles, and an editing panel on the left side.

The fact that mJournal doesn’t use drop down menus but only buttons for every option available in the app is also a statement towards its simplicity. Within the top toolbar, you can change the format of your notes, their appearance and indentation, the color for the text and the background.

As is the case with many other applications of this sort, mJournal also enables you to keep your notes structured with the help of tags, to archive them and to always have them handy in the Favorites section.

As far as security is concerned, right from the start it must be said that there are lots of good news: the application uses a AES-256 encryption system for your notes and it also makes it possible for you to lock your notes so you don’t accidentally delete or alter them.

Another worth mentioning features is the fact that mJournal gives you the option to archive your articles and notes. This means that the archived articles won’t be visible, but can be accessed if need be, by selecting the “View All” entry from the View menu.

If all that is mentioned above facts are not enough to convince you that mJournal takes the security issue  seriously, then you should also know that the application works with the most common synchronization and cloud based services out there, namely BTSync, Dropbox, iCloud Drive, just to name a few.

MJournal comes with an interesting proposition for keeping your notes, safely stored and synchronized that surely deserves a change and a place on your Mac if you are looking for a simple solution for taking notes.
