Wallcat is a lightweight application that can perform this task for you, as it provides a different background image each day and lets you choose from a number of channels, depending on your preferences.

There are no complex configurations that need to be performed after installing Wallcat, as you can simply choose one of the channels to have the app download the daily wallpaper and set it as your desktop background.

You are presented with several styles of photographs or simple color gradients, but it would be nice if there were more to choose from. Once you have selected one, however, you can simply sit back and let the app do its job.

It should be noted that you cannot save the images to your Mac, however, and you need to be connected to the Internet every time you wish to switch between channels, as the daily wallpaper has to be downloaded again.

The app generates a URL that leads to a low-resolution version of the image currently being used as a background, and you can share it with others via e-mail, Twitter or Facebook.

Wallcat also provides you with a link to the author’s website, so you can browse their portfolio and find other photographs you may be interested in.

Overall, this is a simple, unobtrusive menu bar app that provides you with a new, high-quality desktop background every day, although it would be great if more channels were available.
