VisualDiffer for Mac1.6.4
Visual Differ is quite a powerful tool from the ‘file comparison’ category of software. Basically, the app can visually compare two files or folders in a two-column layout. This allows you to clearly spot the differences and copy or delete data to and from one source to another.
The results in a file comparison session with Visual Differ are fast and reliable thanks to the support for the unix diff command. What’s more, you can jump directly to any line in both documents from a separate panel. This panel also displays the total number of lines.
Furthermore, you are empowered to create numerous filtering rules for folder comparisons. For instance, you can exclude files with extensions such as .DS_Store, .git, .bzar and more. Also, if the path is English.lproj, etc.
In addition to this, you can create a rule that tells Visual Differ to align matching file names, but with different extensions. This way, matching files are more easily detected and compared. Folders can also be compared by date and size, or even byte by byte.
As for the looks, Visual Differ features a fairly complex user interface with various shortcut icons for configuring rules, comparison modes, searching files inside folders, view which rules were applied, and more.
Of course, the most important element in the interface is the two-column comparison area. In the folder comparison mode, files which are missing in one folder are marked red and blue if they are different. You can read more about the color legend on the app’s Wiki page.
All in all, the Visual Differ utility delivers great and useful filters and comparison modes that are sure to help you find important differences in your files and folders. Plus, it seems accessible and intuitive enough for all types of users.
