Unclouder For Mac

If you use iCloud Drive to synchronize documents to all your devices, once you delete a certain file, it will be removed from all workstations, without providing any recovery options. Unclouder is a small Mac app that enables you to create local backups for iCloud Drive in order to avoid any data loss.

To start using the Unclouder app, you must start by activating the iCloud Drive service: open the System Preferences window, navigate to the iCloud panel, connect to your Apple account, and check the box assigned to the iCloud Drive feature.

Unclouder will automatically detect the files stored in your iCloud account, and you can see their total size in the app’s main window. The main area of the Unclouder window is reserved for listing all available backups, while the bottom section provides buttons for triggering the Restore and Backup functions.

For each separate backup, Unclouder provides a list with the included content, organized by application, together with their size. However, you can also choose to see the files in the Finder and view their content by using the appropriate apps.

Noteworthy is that, to complete the backup and restore process, certain utilities must be closed: only then, Unclouder will save the associated files locally, or restore an older version.

Unclouder proposes a user friendly solution for making sure the data stored in your iCloud Drive is available locally, regardless of what happens to the documents. The drawback is that you must perform the backups manually: Unclouder does not integrate scheduling capabilities, so you must make sure to periodically backup the data, and delete the old files.
