Everyone's copied or moved files on their Mac. You never really give it that much thought, but you don't have a lot of control over it anyway. It's a simple operation for a simple file manager.

Ultracopier adds a bit more complexity to the mix, additional features, and a lot more customization. It lets you pause and resume transfers, limit speed, resume jobs after errors, queue multiple files, and much more. It's a cross-platform app, so you can use it on Windows and Linux as well.

As the app warns you on first launch, it cannot replace the default Files copy/move system. In order to create transfer jobs, you will need to click the menu bar icon, which gives you the option to copy, move, or transfer files (the latter lets you use both of the first two).

A simple transfer is easy enough. Just select the source file(s) or folder, specify the destination, and let it do its work. To add more files or customize the operation, click More. This dialog provides additional information about transfers, as well as extra controls.

For users who want as much control as possible, Ultracopier will be very interesting. For instance, you can specify what should be included in the transferred file (file rights, file date), limit transfer speed, queue multiple items and change their order. Error and collision management is also comprehensive.

If you want to go even further, you can add or change features via plugins. Both skins and functional plugins are available, and you can manage them from the app's settings.

There's no hiding it — Ultracopier could use a visual makeover, as it looks very outdated on the latest macOS. Its cross-platform is partly to blame for this, but if keen on keeping your desktop looking stylish, this app will certainly stand out.

In the end, Ultracopier is great for users who want maximum performance and control when it comes to transferring files on their Mac. It doesn't look amazing, and it cannot replace Finder's default copy/move feature, but it does the job.
