Tracking For Mac

Tracking is a system monitoring utility that aims to provide information about your Mac’s activity in an easy to read format. The app can register events related to your apps, system, screen, or volumes.

The Tracking user interface is represented by an unobtrusive status bar menulet that provides quick access to the app’s main window, but also allows you to export the logs to the CSV format, or clean the records completely.

By default, Tracking will record various types of events, but if you press the “Process” button, the utility will also list all the currently running processes. The Tracking records include details about the process status, owner, date and time.

The Tracking logs will automatically record each time an app is launched, activated, deactivated, extinct, or just hidden. It will contain details about the system sleep and wake state, about a session activation, and about spaces activity.

Other monitored events include the screen going to sleep mode or waking up. As far as volumes go, Tracking will add a log entry if a volume is mounted, unmounted, or renamed.

Keep in mind that the Tracking logs are continuous, simply listing details about the system activity and other events as they occur. As a result, to find information about a specific incident you need to just browse the log.

Unfortunately, Tracking does not include any type of search support or any customization options. To bypass this limitation, since Tracking can export the information to CSV, you can import the log files in third-party apps to be able to run search queries.

To conclude, Tracking offers a simple solution for monitoring your system’s activity, but the sorting and searching capabilities are limited, and you cannot format the logs in any way.
