Zen Focus For Mac

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method designed by  Francesco Cirillo for people who find it hard to stay focused during the work day.

This system uses a combination of focus rounds, short breaks, and long breaks, all of them designed to help one maintain interest on the task at hand while also taking enough breaks to avoid fatigue and productivity drops.

Zen Focus is a free and Electron-based macOS utility with a minimalist and elegant interface, created to help you use the Pomodoro focus method while working on your Mac.

Moreover, the Zen Focus app helps you work more efficiently using pomodoros, a combination of a focus period immediately followed by a break.

After a number of Pomodoro rounds, Zen Focus will ask you to take a longer break to help you get the rest you need to stay productive.

Once launched on your Mac, Zen Focus will start counting down pomodoros, and you will be able to redo the current phase, pause it and skip to the next one with a mouse click using the controls in the middle of its main screen.

The next interface tab, named Progress Chart, gives you a quick graph-based overview of your total focus length, short break length, and number of completed rounds.

You can customize Zen Focus' focus length, short break length, long break length, long break interval and the number of focus rounds via the Timer Preferences tab.

The Zen Focus app is also designed to notify you when the current focus phase changes, with both audio and visual alerts.

Even though it worked perfectly during the test period and it comes with most of the tools you would need to stay focused throughout the day, Zen Focus definitely needs a status bar menu to have it running in the background and summon it only when you need it.

However, as an alternative, Zen Focus provides a compact mode for people with cluttered desktops, easily toggled on either via the Window menu or by using the ⌘ + ⇧ + M keyboard shortcut.

Everything considered, Zen Focus' ease of use and user-friendly interface recommend it as one of the best tools out there for managing your time using the Pomodoro technique while working on your Mac.
