Tembo For Mac

The Spotlight searching tool that comes integrated within Mac OS X by default is extremely useful, but does not allow you to filter the search results by using custom rules. Tembo is a simple Mac app, based on the Spotlight engine, designed to help you get more relevant results for your searches.

The Tembo user interface is represented by a simple, organized window where you can perform searches, view the results, and apply various filters. For your convenience, Tembo allows you to open multiple search windows at the same time, which means that you can perform more than one query concomitantly.

Right off the bat, the Tembo results are organized by file type category, but you can also sort the results by creation / modification / last opened date (you also get to specify the appropriate time frame). At the same time, you have the option to choose the source location (you can add a specific folder to the list via the contextual menu).

Noteworthy is that for each file type, Tembo comes with a set of context filters that can be enabled to further refine the results list. This way, you can choose to see only images that have a certain resolution, messages that have a user defined sender or recipient, audio tracks that belong to a certain artist, and so on.

Tembo is a great tool to have around if you want to make the most of the built-in Spotlight search engine: the app is using the same resources, but the customizable filtering capabilities have the potential of greatly reducing the processing time.
