Locksmith offers you the possibility to generate complex and secure passwords for your accounts and increase your security level without having to employ storage and management solutions.

To use the Locksmith application, you must input the target website URL and a master password: the utility will employ the Stanford PwdHash algorithm to generate a safe passkey. As a result, you can use the same master key for each of your accounts while preserving a high-security level.

Noteworthy is that since Locksmith does not come with any logging capabilities, you must make sure that you will always remember the master passkey to avoid getting locked out of your own accounts. Secondly, you will have to have to install the Locksmith app on all your workstations to be able to generate the passwords again whenever you need to use them.

The Locksmith user interface is represented by a single window where you get to input the website’s address and the master key. The newly generated passkey is displayed in the top area of the window, and you can quickly copy it to your clipboard.

In the Locksmith Preferences window, you can choose to hide the generated passwords for safety reasons. If the input is inactive a certain period of time (1/5/10 minutes), Locksmith will automatically clean the input. You also have the option to disable this function altogether.

Bottom line, Locksmith proposes a time efficient solution for generating secure passwords for your online accounts with minimal effort.

However, Locksmith does not have companion apps for other operating systems, so you can use it only on your OS X computers which might prove problematic: since it does not integrate any password management capabilities, you must re-generate them each time you need to use them.
