Station is an application and document launcher that offers you the possibility to organize your items into folders and display the groups on multiple levels.
The best part is that Station can work with both apps and individual files, and allows you to launch all the items included in a folder at the same time. This way you can get all the resources needed for a particular project almost instantly.
Right off the bat, you will be able to see the Station dock icon in the bottom area of your screen. Via the app’s Preferences you get to change the default location to the left or right side of your screen.
Note that the Station launch panels will stay on top of all windows, so changing its default location is advisable if you plan to keep using the OS X Dock. The same area allows you to adjust the icons size or choose to have the Station bar automatically hidden.
To get started with Station, just drag and drop apps to the app’s panel or create a new folder by using the contextual menu. You get to add as many folders as you like, and you can use custom names relevant to their content.
You can use the icon of one of the apps included in the group as the folder icon to make the collection more easily recognizable. Station will open the nested folders in a hierarchical manner, and you get to navigate the panels by using your mouse.
Station can go up to ten levels, allows you to launch all the items in a group at the same time, regardless if dealing with apps or documents, and automatically adds a scrollbar to the panels when they surpass the desktop’s size.
Bottom line, Station is an alternative to the macOS Dock that can work with hierarchical folders. The utility places a new panel on top of the previous bar each time you open a new group and allows you to navigate between them in an intuitive manner.
Since Station can launch all items in a collection at the same time, and offers you the option to add the same item to different folders without any restrictions, you can use it to switch between projects with a mouse click.
