Sitting down for too long can have disastrous effects on one’s health, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and lead to other related issues. Stand is a minimalist OS X app that periodically reminds you that is time to stand up.

The Stand application is as simple as it gets: a status bar menu provides quick access to its Preferences window, and audio and visual notifications let you know when it's time to move around.

As a result, Stand does not take up too much desktop space, and both types of alarms seamlessly integrate into your workflow.

The application relies on the Notifications Center for the alerts, and the message bubble remains on the screen until you acknowledge its presence.

Stand comes with very few customization options, and does not integrate any personalization support when it comes to appearance.

You cannot disable the status bar menulet, you can’t change the status bar icon, you don't get to change the sound alert audio within the app, or to employ custom messages for the prompts.

However, Stand can add itself to the list of utilities opened at login, and offers you the possibility to adjust the timer. By using a slider bar that goes from 0 to 59 minutes, you can choose how often you want to stand up from your desk, or at least be notified about it.

Stand emulates the approach taken by the Apple Watch devices that remind you every hour that you need to move around.

Nonetheless, Stand only displays the notifications and does not include any tools that might actually force you to take a break. As a result, the efficiency of the Stand application depends greatly on the user.
