Sharing large image files with your friends and colleagues can be problematic since most email services impose limitations when it comes to the size of the attachment files.

SqueezeFile is a minimalist OS X application that can help you reduce the size of your files, without making you deal with a complex workflow.

Even though SqueezeFile should integrate into your contextual menu and allow you to send files for processing via the Finder menu, this function does not work at the moment.

As a result, the only way to add files for resizing is to drag and drop them on top of the app’s icon. Note that you can also drag and drop files on the SqueezeFile Dock icon.

Via the SqueezeFile Preferences window you can choose the default image size for the processed files (Tiny - 320px, Small - 640px, Medium - 1024px, Large 1600px, or Full), but also the output location (same folder as the source, or on the desktop).

The SqueezeFile application should be able to work with Microsoft Office documents (PPTX, DOCX, XLSX), and popular image file formats such as PNG, JPEG, BMP, and TIFF.

During our test, we have managed to optimize JPG, PNG, and TIFF files, which indeed have reduced their file size considerably. On the other hand, SqueezeFile has not managed to optimize BMP files or Microsoft Office documents.

In all cases, the source image file has been converted to JPG, and SqueezeFile was able to process multiple files at the same time.

Since you can choose to preserve the original image size, the app can be quite useful if you need to convert a large number of photos to the JPG file format.
