SpaceControl is a handy OS X menu-bar based utility that displays the free space available on your home disk. It offers a straightforward solution to knowing how much free space your drive has at a glance. The second function is to alert you when the occupied space has exceeded a user-defined amount.

The application is extremely easy-to-use, as it only offers a few features. An interesting feature is displaying the computer uptime next to the free space icon. What’s more, the app can also display the free space on additional / connected drives and total free space in its menu bar panel.

You can set any value (in the general preferences), but the default one is 20% - about 57 GB of a 300 GB hard drive. The Preferences window provides a few more options. For instance, you can change the font size and color, or simply use the system font default preferences. As for the notification, it consists of a warning box, alert sound or optional email message. The email credentials can be entered in the Warning tab of the preferences. Optionally, users can track other volumes and separately configure the free space alert.
