Search Duplicate Files is a no-frills and straightforward Mac application that aims to help you find all the duplicates for a selected file in a folder of your choice.

The Search Duplicate Files app features a simple and user-oriented GUI which will allow you to choose the file that you want to find duplicates and the folder to search with two simple mouse clicks.

Moreover, once the dupes have been found, Search Duplicate Files will display them as an easily readable clean styled list of files.

Regrettably, in spite of the fact that its name would suggest otherwise and as already mentioned above, Search Duplicate Files will only allow you find duplicates of a single file of your choice.

This being said, we think that “Search File Duplicates” could have been a more suitable name that, as an added bonus, might remove from the confusion generated among Mac App Store users that have complained about the app’s confusing moniker.

On a brighter note, Search Duplicate Files does come with a simple way to find the duplicates it detected on your Mac’s hard drive.

To do that, you have to right click on one of the found dupes and choose either “Show in Finder” to go straight to the folder containing it or “Search with Spotlight” if you want to scan for the file on the whole hard drive, just in case you’ve copied it to other partitions in the past.

Once the list of duplicates for the selected file is displayed within Search Duplicate Files’ main window, you can also choose to move them, one at a time, straight to your Mac’s Trash bin in order to free up storage space on your HDD.

On the whole, the Search Duplicate Files could prove to be a useful ally in fighting of the accumulation of duplicate files on your Mac’s storage devices. Unfortunately though, it might be quite a time consuming task seeing that you can to it one file at a time.
