Screen Movie Recorder for Mac6.0
Making videos with your Mac's screen activity is a well known activity that is common among app developers and gamers that need to present their app or show off their gaming skills. Screen Movie Recorder promises to be the solution that helps you do that in just a few easy steps.
Screen Movie Recorder is a an user-oriented application that enables you to make screen-casts with just a few mouse clicks.
The application is distributed in a lightweight 6.6 MB DMG disk image that you have to mount in order to copy Screen Movie Recorder to your Mac's Applications folder.
Screen Movie Recorder is shareware and does not come with any limits or restrictions apart from the start-up registration screen.
You will be able to start or stop the recording process from the Screen Movie Recorder's status bar menu or by using the predefined keyboard shortcuts.
By accessing the Preferences window, you can set the value of the frame rate anywhere between 1 and 30.
Moreover, you can hide or show the mouse cursor during the recording process and choose the type of framing you need. You can also switch between a fixed framing and one that follows your mouse.
In addition, you have the option to set the destination path and enable or disable the "Automatically check for updates at launch" option.
Another interesting feature that you can enable is the "Reset the preferences at next launch" option.
On paper, Screen Movie Recorder sounds great and comes with a decent amount of features. Unfortunately, the app failed to record anything other than a black screen on OS X 10.8.4.
The situation did not improved greatly when we tried to test the app on OS X 10.6.8. Although you have the option to set the frame rate, Screen Movie Recorder could not keep up with the desired setting and the result was an unusable video file.
All in all, Screen Movie Recorder is screen recording application that looks good on paper but fails to deliver in real situations. If you are interesting in recording your Mac's screen you should look elsewhere.
