Coming up with names is one of the most difficult parts of creating characters, especially if you’re writing a novel with dozens or even hundreds of people that need to be named. And even if you’re just looking for some inspiration, a name generator can help you massively. Roster is a fairly simple application that lets you generate large numbers of names for any purpose. It’s suitable for characters of various origins and any gender, and it allows you to specify which names should be generated and which should be used as is.
To get started, you can choose an origin (US, French, German, Spanish, or Dutch), specify a gender, and choose which of the names (first, middle, or last) should be randomized. It’s also possible for characters to have multiple middle names.
Once you’ve configured everything, set the number of names to be generated and export them to a .csv or .txt file. This is the only way to use the app, with no option to view the names inside the user interface. As a result, Roster is best suited for novelists or other users who need to create multiple names in one go.
