Anyone can easily capture desktop screenshots using built-in OS X services, but if you want to edit the image, or to share it with others, you must rely on third party apps.

Annotate (formerly Glui) is an unobtrusive yet efficient utility designed to provide a streamlined experience when it comes to working with desktop images. The app integrates basic image capturing tools, elementary editing functions and integrates time-saving online sharing capabilities.

Within the Annotate status bar menu, you can easily choose if you want to capture crosshair or window snapshots. At the same time, you can also make use of the default hotkeys.

Annotate will automatically send the captured content to the built-in image editor, where you can easily add text annotations, make use of the free hand drawing pencil tool, crop the picture, and so on.

Annotate can connect to your Dropbox or Apple Cloud account and enables you to upload the processed images with a simple mouse click.

You can copy them to the clipboard, share them by email, send them via Messages, place them in a Twitter or a Facebook post, or save them locally.

Annotate proposes a streamlined workflow for dealing with screenshots without having to employ multiple apps or services. Using Annotate proves to be quite easy even for inexperienced users.

However, the processing capabilities provided by Annotate are rather elementary: you cannot grab delayed screenshots, the annotation editor comes with few drawing tools, and you can’t upload the images to an FTP server, or to other cloud services, except Dropbox and Apple Cloud.
