xType is a powerful and very easy-to-use Mac OS X application that enables you to use custom abbreviations in order to insert frequently used expressions, signatures and images without lifting your hands off the keyboard.

The best thing about xType is that you are not required to keep it open at all times, xType is capable to quietly work in the background and insert the right text, image or snippet when required. Thanks to xType, you will be able to improve your writing speed and the overall productivity in no time.

From xType’s main window you can easily add, remove or edit exiting abbreviations, create custom abbreviations groups and customize the expansion text according to your needs. To add a new abbreviation you just have to click on the “Plus” button, name it, type in the expansion text, format it and use it every time you need it.

xType helps you change the font size, color and type, change the text alignment and use the Bold, Italic and Underline buttons to format the text. At the same time you can remove the formatting, add an image, the date and / or the time.

What is more, xType allows you to make your shortcuts case sensitive and create a list of applications for which the selected abbreviation is disabled. You can even disable xType entirely for the desired applications.

By accessing the Settings tab, you can enable or disable xType, change the keyboard shortcut and tweak the sound notification settings. Consequently, you can use one of the provide sounds to notify you when the suggestions window pops up or closes and when the content is inserted. Moreover, you can animate the suggestions window and allow xType to automatically insert exact matches.
