Drag and drop actions are almost essential for Mac users, but if you have a large display, moving an item all the way to your Dock to open it with a specific application can take up valuable time.

Orb is a simple app that seeks to come to your aid. It provides you with a radial context menu at the current pointer location, so that you can open files with relevant applications quicker than ever before.

Once you have installed Orb, it automatically detects which applications can be used to open specific files. All you have to do is drag the item a short distance across your screen, and the radial context menu will be brought up.

You can then move the file over one of the displayed icons to open it in a particular app and get on with your work.

You can drag a file in the Orb preferences menu to view all the installed apps that can be used to open it. These can be organized depending on which of them are used most often, to that you can always find them easily.

Unfortunately, though, it is not possible to remove applications from this list if you do not use them on a regular basis and wish to reduce clutter in the radial context menu.

Orb can detect which direction the file icon is moved in, so that the application located at the top of the priority list is placed in your path.

You can also modify the menu’s color scheme, specify its size and choose whether or not image previews should be displayed in its center.

Orb is a well-designed and very useful tool that can streamline your workflow by making it easier to open files with specific applications.
