Sometimes the best way to focus on doing something is to block out all exterior distractions. Naturally, when working on a computer, distractions easily find their way into our line of attention, specially with the instant access to information provided by the internet.

1Focus (formerly OneFocus) is a simple and bluntly effective application that was designed with this exact reason in mind: to prevent distractions that can affect your workflow by blocking certain applications for selected periods of time.

Once installed, 1Focus will start in the most common place for this type of small utilities, in the macOS status bar. 1Focus isn’t the type of application with miles-long features list, but instead, it focuses on delivering a fast and effortless way to block apps.

To begin using 1Focus and start blocking apps that are distracting, click the status bar item, input the period of time in minutes, select the apps you don’t want to block (allowed apps) from a list containing all installed apps on your Mac, and click Start.

Note that, once you click the Start button, all non-selected apps will become automatically hidden, so be sure to choose carefully what applications to block or not.

Also worth-mentioning is the fact that, the default time for blocking apps is set to an acceptable one minute, so if you accidentally block off the wrong application, you won't have to wait for long periods of time or resort to options like forcing your Mac to shut down.
