MyPhotostream for Mac
Apple is using your iCloud account to quickly sync your photos between all your devices and enables you to view your pictures in a Photo Stream. MyPhotostream is a minimalist Mac app designed to help you browse this photo stream without using the iPhoto app.
Employing the Apple vetted image viewer for visualizing the images stored on your iCloud account might not always be the best choice: iPhoto is a fairly complex application and you might only need to quickly extract an image, not manage the entire album.
However, to be able to use MyPhotostream, iPhoto or Aperture must be installed on your system beforehand. This is necessary to be able to configure the Photo Stream on your device.
Since MyPhotostream only allows you to view the most recent photos and does not include uploading capabilities, its system footprint is reduced. Moreover, the app shows the photos in chronological order without organizing them by album and so on.
In case your photos do not have the correct order, navigate to the MyPhotostream main window and select the “Reset MyPhotostream” option: this way the app will reevaluate your data and all inconsistencies should be fixed.
In addition, from the MyPhotostream View menu you can adjust the thumbnail size (small, medium or large), the initial number of photos (few, many or all) and you can enable the “Scale Photos” function.
Last but not least, MyPhotostream allows you to view the images in full and includes a contextual menu that allows you to save the current picture to the downloads folder, share it on social media by using your Facebook, Flickr, or Twitter accounts, send it by email / Messages / Airdrop or open it in a third party application.
To conclude, MyPhotostream delivers a minimalist and user friendly environment and allows you to browse your Photo Stream without having to deal with complex tools.
