The Apple Remote controls are great devices if you need to manage your Mac’s behavior in certain situations from anywhere in the room. Mira is a simple System Preferences pane that allows you to customize the Remote’s controls, while taking into account the target application.
Mira comes with its own installer which greatly simplifies the whole procedure: it will quickly place the pane in your System Preferences window, where you can customize the remote’s behavior.
Right off the bat, when you access the Mira main window, you must decide if you want the app’s functionalities enabled or disabled, or if you want to disable the infrared receiver (must be enabled to allow the connection with your Apple Remote).
Note that you have to pair at least one Apple Remote with any connected IR receiver to be able to use the app’s capabilities (navigate to the Options tab). The next step is to personalize the buttons effect and the launch menu.
Mira offers you the possibility to set up different button actions for each application, hence create an unlimited number of usage profiles. You get to quickly enable the apps for which you want to use the Apple Remote by checking the box attached to each recognized utility.
To change the action assigned to each remote button, simply click on each specific button and Mira will launch a contextual menu. Here you must select one of the supported actions: keystroke (can include modifier keys), system action, system volume adjustments (up / down / mute), open item, launch menu and more.
Mira also includes a large list of options that can be activated if you press the buttons twice. The best part is that Mira includes profiles import and export capabilities, so you have to take the time to make the adjustments only once.
Mira is a small but extremely useful System Preferences pane that offers you the possibility to customize the effect of the Apple Remote buttons for each application separately. All you have to do is to pair your remote with an IR receiver connected to your Mac, and use the Mira interface to personalize the button’s actions.
