Orbis (formerly MenuWeather) for Mac
MenuWeather is a handy weather client with lots of powerful features. The app provides realtime weather information from the CustomWeather.com website that’s used by 500 companies around the world.
MenuWeather provides a desktop GUI as well as an accessible menu bar item. The menu bar icon shows the current weather in a specified location and clicking on it will bring out a panel with more detailed information.
Furthermore, the status bar menu provides access to the current weather conditions and the 15-day forecast. You can check the weather conditions in other locations as well.
The application provides 15-day forecast from any location in the world and detailed hourly forecast. You can also view radar maps, check the weather for multiple locations at once and view severe weather alerts.
From the desktop interface, you can access a pane for selecting a location, a search bar for looking up places, the daily forecast, current conditions, as well as national, regional or local radar maps.
Clicking on each day (both in the desktop and menu bar item) will show its hourly forecast with details such as high / low temperatures, condition summary, chance of precipitation, humidity, visibility, feels like temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure, rainfall and snowfall amounts and more.
Additionally, MenuWeather offers details about the moon phase during the current day or otherwise. The moon phase information includes illumination percentage and the hours at which the moonrise, moonset, sunrise and sunset occur.
Whenever the temperature or other weather parameters change, MenuWeather will display desktop notifications via Growl.
MenuWeather is also available on the iOS platform and it’s possible to synchronize settings between the desktop app and the iOS version.
All things considered, MenuWeather is a great choice if you want reliable and up-to-date weather forecast (with a great amount of details) on your menu bar.
