A handy break reminder application for the OS X platform which allows you to set a timer for reminding you to take breaks after a period of work
Rest is a lightweight Mac OS X application for alerting you to take a break from your work. The concept is very simple and the app is designed to implement a user-friendly way to set recurrent reminders with custom messages and different sounds.
The application allows you to configure the work period, break period and postpone time. For instance, the work period is 1 hour and the break period is 5 minutes. During the break, you can stretch, walk around or grab something from the kitchen. Thanks to the simple system bar menu, you can easily pause and start the timer, too.
Furthermore, the postpone function allows you to defer the timer with a specified amount of time, which can be 1, 5, 10 minutes or more. This function is also accessible via the menu bar item, where you can use the 1 minute or 5 minute options or a custom option set in the app’s preferences.
When the work or break period is over, a popup will be displayed on your screen. You can choose to display a user-defined message in the popup window. Also, the background color of this window can be changed. Along with the popup, Rest will play an optional sound that can also be changed from the settings.
On the whole, Rest provides you with an efficient break reminder alternative. It displays the remaining time on your menu bar and displays notifications about taking breaks or starting work again. It is simple to configure and comes with a fair price tag.
