Koch Trainer For Mac

The Morse code has been a very popular method of transmitting information before the telephone was invented. The code was used to convert the data into series of clicks which could then be relayed by the electrical telegraph system.

Since this method required people trained to convey and understand the code on both ends, the Morse code has been abandoned after easier long distance communication methods have been discovered.

However, Morse code enthusiasts still learn the alphabet and train to achieve new performance levels. Koch Trainer is a small Mac app designed to help anyone who wishes to assimilate the code.

The application is using the Koch method which has been developed by Ludwig Koch, a German psychologist. This technique claims that one should learn to respond at the speed you expect to receive the message in order to expedite the process.

Working with Koch Trainer is fairly intuitive: in the main window you can select the type of lesson you want to practice (Koch, Random Words or Callsigns), specify the words per minutes speed, the Farnsworth, the frequency and the number of words.

Press the “Play” button to start the lesson and begin typing the letters or words you hear in the built in scratch pad area. Of course, you can also write them down on a piece of paper: Koch Trainer does not extract the score automatically so you can use any medium you like.

To help you determine your proficiency level, Koch Trainer will display the code on the bottom of the main window once the audio is over. Move to the next lesson only after you reached a 90% accuracy level.

Koch Trainer is a great tool if you are trying to learn the Morse code and you need a simple but efficient app to practice on your own.
