Easy to use macOS status bar menu application that is able to automatically eject user specified types of external disks before your computer goes to sleep mode. #Eject disk #Disk eject #Unmount disk #Eject #Unmount #Sleep
Unplugging external drives without successfully unmounting them first will eventually lead to disk failures and data loss: Jettison is a small Mac app that makes sure all connected drives are unmounted when you put you Mac to sleep, so that you will be able to unplug them directly.
Upon launch, Jettison will place a small icon in your status bar which provides quick access to a small menu that enables you to manually eject all disks, to eject and enable the sleep mode, or to simply put your Mac to sleep. However, the app is also able to perform some of these tasks on its own.
To let you know a certain task has been performed successfully or not, Jettison provides audio notifications. For your convenience, the app also allows you to define global hotkeys for frequently used functions.
Via the Jettison Preferences window you have the possibility to quickly adjust the app’s default behavior: the app can eject the external drives before the system goes to sleep, or if your Mac is restarted or shut down.
You can specify which types of disks are to be automatically handled: hard disks, DVDs and CDs, disk images, network drives, or SD cards. Moreover, you have the option to have the drives remounted upon wake-up, or to reload the driver to remount flash drives (requires the installation of a helper app).
Jettison eliminates the need to manually unmount external drives before unplugging them: you can quickly trigger the unmounting procedure, or you can allow the app to handle it on its own by putting the computer to sleep. Jettison is a great tool to have around if you want to reduce the risk of disk failures due to improper usage.
What's new in Jettison 1.8.7:
- Fixed a bug that could prevent Jettison from mounting encrypted volumes on non-APFS disks.
- Jettison now uses information from APFS to ensure that it hides volumes that should be hidden. This includes the Update volume on recovery disks and the Macintosh HD boot volume.
- If unmounted volumes don't have a name (which happens with some pre-formatted flash drives), Jettison will assign them the name "Untitled" to be consistent with macOS.
- Jettison would sometimes report that a disk had been mounted before it actually appeared on the Desktop. This has been fixed.
