ID Util For Mac

ID Util offers you the possibility to preview InDesign and InCopy projects even if you don’t have the respective apps installed on your Mac.

ID Util also comes with a Finder companion plug-in that enables you to see details about the page size and what version of the application has been used to create the project.

To start using the ID Util application, just drag and drop the InDesign, InCopy, or IDML files you want to preview on top of the app’s main window or on the Dock icon. Note that you can also open files with the help of the Finder menu.

ID Util will launch a new window where you get to preview the document, zoom in and out, or sent the output directly to the printer. The utility also offers you the possibility to export the preview image to well-known image file formats, such as PNG, JPG, or PDF.

Moreover, if you also have the Adobe apps installed on your system, ID Util offers you the possibility to save the document again and this time include high definition preview images for each project page.

Worth mentioning is that ID Util also comes integrated with a QuickLook style Finder plug-in that offers you the possibility to preview the InDesign and InCopy documents on the spot, without having to launch the app.

Just select the file you want to analyze in a Finder window and press the spacebar on your keyboard. You get to preview the document content and see details about the format and page size.

The preview plug-in also allows you to zoom the image in and out, to send the project to the ID Util app, or to use macOS' share menu.

To sum it all up, ID Util is a minimalist macOS application that integrates seamlessly with your system and offers you the possibility to preview Adobe documents without having the proprietary applications installed.
