HexView for Mac
Binary files can contain any type of data, including malware, so if you want to visualize the file structure and to extract all sorts of relevant information, a reliable Hex viewer is required.
HexView is a minimalist Mac OS X application that has been developed on the Java platform and allows you to effortlessly view any file in hexadecimal format in no time, even if the file is very large. Of course, to be able to run the application, the Java runtime Platform must be installed on your Mac beforehand.
Minimalist yet efficient Hex viewer utility that can handle any file
The HexView user interface is reduced to a single window where you can visualize the file’s hexadecimal representation almost instantly. To start analyzing a file you must press the “Open” button placed in the top left corner of the main window, or drag and drop the item on top of the HexView panel.
In the top window area you will be able to view the source file name and navigate the document’s content by using various back or forward buttons: jump one line or row, one page, or go to the start/end of the file. In the bottom bar you can choose how many row and columns should be displayed at the same time, and adjust the font size.
Hex analysis utility that can help you find out relevant information about any binary file
Noteworthy is that HexView is able to display the hexadecimal data almost instantly, regardless of the size of the analyzed file. However, the app does not include neither editing capabilities, nor search tools.
HexView allows you to quickly navigate to a specific hex value, but you can also copy the data to your clipboard and import it to a third party application that provides more complex searching utilities.
