Backups are essential for important data, and it’s becoming more and more necessary to have access to your data from any location and any device.

GoodSync is one option you have for handling both of these requirements. It’s a relatively intuitive app packed with features, allowing you to create manual or automatic backups, synchronize your files, and ensure important data is uploaded to one of the many supported cloud storage services.

While the UI is somewhat outdated, it’s still quite intuitive. When adding your first job, you’ll need to select the source and backup destination (for backup jobs) or the two locations that need to be synchronized. Selecting a local folder is a bit annoying, as you have to navigate through the entire file structure to get to a certain location, and drag & drop isn’t supported.

The source and destination can both be local or cloud-based, and GoodSync offers support for every major cloud storage provider, as well as FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV.

After analyzing a new or existing job, you’ll be able to see any changes, conflicts, or errors that are detected. The quick filters in the toolbar make it easy to sort through these, and you can then decide how they should be handled.

Once everything is set up, jobs can be completely automated. They can be run on a specific schedule, when a file is changed, when the app starts, or on a timer. Rules can be configured to determine how conflicts or other events should be handled.

For each job, you can add filters to include or exclude specific items. Moreover, more in-depth analysis tools can be enabled for any location, along with client-side encryption where necessary.

GoodSync is a pretty advanced backup and sync utility that is particularly useful for cross-platform use, given the large number of systems it can run on. The free version is helpful for small-scale backups, while the paid version gives you more features and extends platform availability.
