Keeping various notes close at hand can save a lot of time, especially when you organize them efficiently.
Ghostnote is a minimalist OS X app that enables you to create “contextual” notes, by allowing you to attach text snippets to any document, folder, application, or web page.
The Ghostnote user interface is represented by a small status bar panel where you can quickly input text snippets, make lists, add check boxes and so on. The best part is that the Ghostnote note panel is both detachable and resizable.
However, on first launch, the utility will prompt you to install the additional scripts that make it possible to associate notes with documents. You can learn more about each document detection script on the project’s GitHub page.
Working with the Ghostnote app is quite easy: select the document or folder to which you want to associate the entry, and press the app’s status bar icon. Input your note within the Ghostnote panel and the utility will automatically save it.
If you want to remove a note, just delete the text from the Ghostnote panel. The best part is that, each time you select an item that has a record associated, the app’s status bar icon will display a small alert sign.
You can choose to have each note automatically exported to an RTF file, or to your Evernote account. Last but not least, you have the option to create a global shortcut for accessing the Ghostnote panel without having to use your mouse.
Since you can see the Ghostnote records within context, you do not have to waste time searching for specific entries. The utility’s user interface is versatile enough to be comfortable to use in a plethora of situations.
