As we are sure you know, there’s no shortage of full-featured and comprehensive apps on the market today that can help you monitor and calculate your ideal weight and other health factors.

FreeBMI is a lightweight OS X app that is nothing like those apps described above. Basically, FreeBMI makes it possible for you to calculate your body mass indicator and your ideal weight based on only two parameters: your height and your weight.

Put simply, FreeBMI is not the most accurate tool for ideal weight purposes out there, but it will pin-point your body mass index category, namely if you are underweight, normal weight or overweight.

As far as features go, that’s kind of all you get with this app, except maybe the option to save your weight information file, so you can compare later on your progress on in achieving your ideal weight target.

Here’s a fact that you should be aware of: FreeBMI will use your system’s settings to calculate your ideal weight and BMI.

This means that, in order to switch its calculation method from metric to imperial or vice-versa, you must open the System Preferences, select the Language and Region menu, click the “Advanced…” button from the lower right side and switch the measurement units.

There’s not really something wrong with this app, everything works as it should and it is quite clear that it was designed to be as simple as possible, but, a switch for quickly toggling between imperial and metric measurement units would have been a nice addition.

If you want a simple OS X application for rapidly calculating your ideal weight and body mass indicator, then it's quite hard to find one more basic and easy to use than FreeBMI.
