Command line script that offers you the possibility to effortlessly create a bootable USB by using any of the OS X installers available in the Mac App Store. #Create bootable USB #Create flash drive #Bootable USB maker #Bootable #USB #Boot
Flash Drive Maker offers you the possibility to quickly create a bootable USB via the command line without having to worry about typing the correct commands. Just drag and drop the disk and the OS X installer you want to use, and the script takes care of the rest.
As you launch the Flash Drive Maker application, the utility will open a new Terminal window where you get to see the associated script running. For your convenience, the script comes with both French and English localizations.
To get started, Flash Drive Maker prompts you for the flash drive on which you want to install the media. You get to point out the volume by simply dragging and dropping its icon on top of the Terminal window.
The same rule applies when it comes to providing the OS X installer you want to employ. Flash Drive Maker works very well with installers downloaded from the Mac App Store, which are placed by default in the Applications folder.
However, Flash Drive Maker can work with OS X installers stored in any other directory on your drive. The utility will automatically start validating the target and source volumes, and you must confirm that you indeed want to erase the USB drive.
While Flash Drive Maker is getting on with the task, you will notice additional mounted volumes that are required for the process. The utility will unmount them on its own when everything is done, so you don’t need to interfere with the virtual disks in any way.
Take into account that the entire procedure might take some time, so being patient is advisable: you should be able to monitor the process in the command line and receive a completion message.
Flash Drive Maker helps you make your own bootable USB drives via the command line without having to look for the correct commands, manually setting the path to the source installers, and so on.
The tool works with OS X installers that have been downloaded from the Mac App Store, but if you want to use the flash drive on a Hackintosh machine, you can simply install a third-party bootloader on the bootable USB.
