Finding and deleting empty folders present on your disk manually is not a very efficient use of your time. At the same time, most tools do not detect empty folders if they still contain invisible .DS_Store files.

Find Empty Folders is a minimalist Mac OS X application designed to address this issue, and to help you batch remove these empty folders.

Find Empty Folders comes with a very intuitive workflow: simply drag and drop the folder you want to analyze, or the entire drive, and the app will scan and reveal a list with the empty folders. You also get to alter the results list by choosing not to include the invisible folders.

The next step is to select at least one entry from the inventory of empty folders and choose to see the enclosing directory in the Finder, or to send it directly to the trash. To get an updated version of the results list, simply press the “Search Again” button, and Find Empty Folders will repeat the scanning process.

Even though the empty directories stored on your drive do not take a lot of space, their presence might prove to be a nuisance when cleaning or reorganizing your drive. That is why, being able to quickly find the ones that do not contain any actual files is extremely important.

The best part about the Find Empty Folders tool is the fact that it allows you to quickly remove multiple folders at the same time, with a simple mouse click: just make sure to select all the directories you want to delete. What’s more, you can easily open any of them in the Finder to check for additional invisible items.
