Organizing all the movies, TV shows and music albums stored on your Mac can be a truly daunting task, especially if they do not have a consistent naming pattern or accompanying subtitles.

FileBot makes your job a lot easier, however, as it can help you rename videos using data extracted from various online databases, as well as find and download subtitles in no time at all.

The most useful feature offered by FileBot is its ability to rename movies, episodes or songs according to information retrieved from online databases. All you need to do is drag the relevant files into the app’s main window, select the preferred data source and ensure they are all matched correctly.

While FileBot comes equipped with three naming schemes specially created for episodes, movies and songs, they are fully customizable, and you can even create multiple matching presets.

If you simply want to view detailed information about certain TV shows, you can search online databases and have the app list all episodes in air date or DVD order. The list can also be saved as a TXT file on local storage.

Searching the right subtitles can be a tiresome task, especially when dealing with a TV series made up of dozens or episodes. Provided you have an OpenSubtitles account, FileBot can find and download captions for your video files automatically.

FileBot can help you view the overall composition of your video, TV show and music libraries in regards to file formats, size and attributes. The FileBot application also enables you to create and verify SFV, MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 files.

Overall, FileBot is a comprehensive multi-platform utility that can prove to be invaluable to users who have large collections of movies, TV shows or songs on their Macs, but are having a difficult time organizing them.

What's new in FileBot 5.1.3:

  • Added support for Official episode order
  • Improved charset detection
  • Experimental support for OpenSubtitles REST API
